Kyambogo University (KYU) was founded in 2003 by the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions (Establishment of Kyambogo University) Regulations and the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001, making it the third public university in Uganda. Formerly known as the Uganda Polytechnic Kyambogo (UPK), the Institute of Teacher Education, Kyambogo (ITEK), and the Uganda National Institute of Special Education, it was created via the amalgamation of these institutions. (UNISE). Kyambogo University, one of the eight public universities and institutes in the nation that grant degrees, is situated on Kyambogo Hill. The fundamental objective of Kyambogo University, a relatively new institution, is to advance knowledge and skill development in the disciplines of science, technology, education, and related fields while considering quality, equity, social advancement, and societal transformation. The university has six faculties: education, engineering, science, special needs & rehabilitation, vocational studies, and six faculties of arts and social sciences. It also includes one school of management & entrepreneurship. The university’s mission is to advance and promote knowledge and skill development in science, technology, and education as well as in other sectors while keeping quality, equity, societal progress, and transformation in mind. Its vision is to be a center of academic and professional excellence. Facilities The four libraries at Kyambogo University | KYU are available to students for reading. The Barclays Library is located in the East End of the campus, followed by the Technology Library in the West End, the Education Library in the North End, and the Library of Education. The many Faculties and Departments also have a variety of departmental libraries and resource centers. Graduate students can use particular computer labs and rooms that have been set aside for their use. However, in order to manage graduate work, graduate students are required to be computer literate and to enroll in general computer science courses. Along with numerous other health services, there is a University Health Center that serves students. The university provides staff, their dependents, and students with curative and health promotion services. Such cases are transported to the hospital by the University Ambulance. And to refer hospitals when a need arises. There are five contemporary residence halls available, two of which are for female students who are supported by the government and a small number of students who are sponsored privately. Additionally, there are privately owned dorms connected to the university. Around Kyambogo University, there are a lot of private hostels. Students with meal cards are provided with university lunches. Only students who are funded by the government or who pay for their own meals receive meal cards from the Domestic Bursars’ offices. The University has excellent athletic facilities. It also has a rugby pitch, a cricket oval, two football fields, two jogging tracks, two basketball courts, four tennis courts, two handball courts, two netball pitches, and two other sports courts.
